Personal Space, 2016
The idea for this work came about out of a need for personal space. I was living with my boyfriend at his parent’s house for about a year, and we were looking for a place of our own. Compared to actual homelessness and fugitiveness it is not a critical situation to be in, but it still prompted me to wonder about the human necessity to feel that one has a space of one’s own and what the minimum space could be to fulfil this need. Formally this work is very much inspired by Donald Judd’s Untitled Sculptures.
